Request for Volunteers – Standard Setting for New BELS Exam Form
Hello BELS Members,
BELS is in the process of finalizing a new certification exam form. The last step in this process, Standard Setting, involves 8-12 subject matter experts (i.e., BELS-certified editors) reviewing the new form as a means of helping to calibrate its difficulty.
There are three steps to this process, which we are hoping to schedule in May:
- A 4-hour training session with our test preparation consultant firm, Prometric.
- Individual readthrough and assessment of the exam form, as instructed during the training.
- A 4-hour meeting to walk through the exam and discuss the questions. This will also be led by Prometric.
Members who have not previously been involved in test development activities are especially welcome and invited to participate in the Standard Setting, to provide fresh eyes on the test questions and the exam form as a whole. Participants will be required to sign an NDA once the dates are established and the participant list is confirmed.
If you are interested in possibly participating in the Standard Setting and you have availability during May, please email Ginger Peschke ([email protected]), cc to Naomi Ruff ([email protected]). Ginger will send you a Doodle poll showing the times and dates available for the two 4-hour meetings. Also, please email Ginger (cc to Naomi) if you have an interest in participating but are not available during May, as we might have to postpone the meetings until sometime during the summer. In either case, it might not be possible to include everyone who might have an interest because of the challenges in scheduling such a large group.
Thank you for your interest and assistance!
Sincerely yours,
Virginia M. (Ginger) Peschke, PhD, ELS
