Science Editors Network: Survey for Scientific Editing Professionals

Dear BELS Members,

Please see below for a request from a related editing organization, the Science Editors Network (ScENe), which is working to learn more about professional editors and the resources they use or would like to use. The results of this survey are likely to benefit all of us who work in this field.

My name is Heather Aldrich, and I am a researcher from Colorado State University in the Institute for Research in the Social Sciences (IRISS). We are collaborating with the Scientific Editor’s Network (ScENe) to conduct a research study to learn more about professionals working in the field of scientific editing. The title of our project is Survey for Scientific Editing Professionals.

We would like to invite you to take an anonymous online survey. Participation will take approximately 15-20 minutes. Your participation in this research is voluntary. There is no compensation for completing the survey. If you decide to participate in the study, you may withdraw your consent and stop participation at any time without penalty. We will not collect your name or personal identifiers. When we report and share the data to others, we will combine the data from all participants. While there are no direct benefits to you, we hope to gain more knowledge on the profession of scientific editing, including the demographics and employment of current editors, the training needed to enter the field of scientific editing, and the breadth of work done by those in the profession.

It is not possible to identify all potential risks in research procedures, but the researcher(s) have taken reasonable safeguards to minimize any known and potential (but unknown) risks.

To indicate your consent to participate in this research and to continue to the survey, please click here.

Please forward this email to other professionals you know who work in the field of scientific editing.

If you have any questions about the research, please contact Heather Aldrich at [email protected]. If you have any questions about your rights as a volunteer in this research, contact the CSU IRB at: [email protected]; 970-491-1553.
